Who We Are

ROBIN is an expert team, composed of some of the most dedicated and skilled engineers, and data analysts, singularly focused on detecting the initiation and propagation of cracks that can cause potentially huge damages and more importantly can be hazardous and threatening to Human life. ROBIN has the potential to offer low-cost scheduled inspections or continuous monitoring, with or without highly experienced human personnel. ROBIN team is the ultimate level of human safety along with the full-scale environmental consciousness in developing and maintaining buildings, infrastructures, and transportation and energy sector structures.

What We Do

The maintenance industry is a highly professional industry with a focus on four tasks:

Among these four tasks, the first one, i.e. inspection and monitoring, is extremely critical since any uncertainties in it may provide the wrong direction to the other three tasks. This is an area the ROBIN has focused on and has strong technology and methodology to support it.

We apply ROBIN technology for detecting and monitoring of cracks and their pervasiveness in various concrete and metal structures, including bridges, tunnels, heritage architectures, domestic houses, railways, dams, skyscrapers, pipelines in oil and gas industries, etc. These cracks occur mainly due to fatigue or corrosion. A large part of our business is in the robust inspection of concrete structures in bridges and tunnels. We have extensive experience in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) of welded structures used in bridges, tunnels, High-rise buildings, plants, etc. This technology has a significant contribution in monitoring the health and integrity of concrete damns.

How We Do It

Detection of initiation and propagation of cracks in structural materials including concrete and metals has been always very challenging. This detection is highly critical particularly for quality assurance purposes during or after construction and for continual maintenance of the structures. Crack development on the surface of various concrete and metal structures can pose severe damage and serious safety issues. Common human/computer visual-based inspection and radio frequency detection techniques are costly and time invasive. We applied a layer cover to the surfaces and allows automated detection of various hazardous cracks efficiently and quickly. This technique is a reliable detection way for any crack initiation or crack propagation on concrete and metal structures. The range of applicable structures includes residential units to transportation infrastructures, energy generation infrastructures, and domestic and heritage buildings.

ROBIN utilizes a coating layer with microcapsules containing an identifier material. The layer is applied to the surface of the structures. The microcapsules rupture in the event of a crack or excessive strain on the surface of the structure. The ROBIN’s special detector automatically identifies the material in the event of exposure. ROBIN special detector performs the inspection automatically and by remote reading. Advanced image processing techniques and artificial intelligent-based pattern recognition are used to detect the patens associated with the initiation of the cracks and their propagation.

ROBIN's Technology

The development of inspection technologies, by nature always shows a trend in increasing accuracy and precision. The highest levels of accuracy and precision, and reducing the level of uncertainties are always demanded by the inspection system. However, today’s inspection systems in addition to accuracy and precision need to address another very different requirement, which is digitalization. As the requirements for digitalization, the new generation of inspection sensors needs to satisfy the followings:

All of these four requirements, as the new trends for inspection and sensor technologies, are well seen in the development of ROBIN inspection technology.
